NEW TEAM AWARDS!
New Team Awards for this event! We will
have a 1st and 2nd place award for the top two finishing teams overall. Awards will be calculated based on the
top four finishing players score. (Teams must be registered on the OSCF website and meet on a regular basis.)
We will also have a Wildcard team award for players who don't have a team and want to form one on the day of the tournament.
Ties will be broken in the following order 1) Final placement of the top four 2) One player blitz
3) Coin toss
SECTIONS
Class H (ratings 0-599)
Class G (ratings 600-799)
Class F (ratings 800-999)
Class E (ratings 1000-1199)
Open K-Adult (1200+ we will group by class if
we have a large number of players in the open)
Sections may be combined or added depending on attendance. All guaranteed awards
will be given out.

Wondering which section is right for you? Email Kate for a little help. For section placement and pairings purposes, we will use the latest established
official ratings for NWSRS. If NWSRS is not established, we'll use an established USCF rating.

Classes E-H will be NWSRS rated. No USCF Membership is required. Although... as always, USCF rules
will be followed.

Open section USCF Membership required and will be dual rated
- The tournament director reserves the right to add or combine sections depending
on the number of entries. If sections are added, prizes will be added as well. Early registration is important!
Class H
Requirements:
Open to scholastic players rated 0-599
(players without ratings from grades K-5 will play in this section)
Entry Fee: $15
in advance / $25 at the door
Format: 5
Round Swiss, G/30 (clocks and notation not required, but recommended)
Awards:
- Trophies to the top 25% of players
- Medals for 3+ wins
Class G
Requirements: Open to scholastic players rated 600-799
(players without ratings from grades 6-7 will play in this section)
Entry Fee: $15 in advance / $25 at the door
Format: 5 Round Swiss, G/30, (clocks and notation not required, but recommended).
Awards:
- Trophies to the top 25% of players
- Medals for 3+ wins
Class F
Requirements:
Open to scholastic players rated 800-999
(players without ratings in grades 8-9 will play in this section)
Entry Fee: $15
in advance / $25 at the door
Format: 5
Round Swiss, G/30 (clocks if one person wants one, notation is not required but strongly recommended)
Awards:
- Trophies for the top 25% of players
- Medals for 3+ wins
Class E
Requirements: Open
to scholastic players rated 1000-1199
(players without ratings in grades 10-11 will play in this section)
Format: 4
Round Swiss, G45. Clocks and notation required.
Entry Fee: $15
in advance / $25 at the door
Awards: Cash awards to top 25% of players in this section. Cash awards will not
be split. Blitz will break ties for awards in first place. Computer tie breaks for all other places.
Open
Requirements: Open
to all ages 5-Adult USCF Membership required and may be purchased on site.
Format: 4
Round Swiss, G45. Clocks and notation required.
Entry Fee: $20
in advance / $30 at the door
Awards: Cash
prizes to top 25% of players in this section. Cash awards will not be split. Blitz will break ties for first place.
Computer tie breaks for all other awards.

TIE BREAKS
Tie Breaks - Final
placement will be determined by computer tie break (Solkoff, Cumulative Opposition, and Opposition). Curious about how

First Place Award Tie Breaks -
If two or more players tie for first place in any section, the winner will be determined by single round Blitz
with random color selection. If players are still tied at the end of a blitz playoff, the winner will be determined
by computer tie breaks as above. So be sure to brush up on your blitz strategy before you arrive! Blitz/Bughouse Rules

Where the heck is Clatskanie? We're just across the river from
Longview, WA and about an hour NW of Portland. A few blocks from our playing site is a covered skate park, a terrific
espresso shop "Flowers & Fluff" and a great pizza place! Our tournaments are friendly, fun, have unique
awards and are definitely worth checking out.
Directions: Take I-5 to the Longview WA exit #36. Follow the signs to the Lewis
& Clark bridge. Cross the Columbia River into Oregon. Turn right onto Hwy 30, travel 11 miles. We're
a one stoplight town... don't blink or you may miss it! Two streets past the light, turn left onto Bryant
St. The playing site is 5 blocks up on the left.
Or.... take Highway 30 from Portland or the Coast and follow the directions above.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
If you decide to stay for the weekend, be sure to ask for the chess rate when you call Clatskanie
hotels...
Entry fees must be received by the Thursday prior to tournament
day in order to qualify for the in advance rate. No pre-tournament byes. Scholastic Tournament Registration
CONCESSIONS
Beverages, snacks, and meals will be available onsite.
BRING
Folding chairs for parents (seating is available, but if you have a comfortable
folding chair you should bring it!), chess sets & clocks if you have them. Don't forget your winning
attitude and... bring a friend!
MISC
- Basketball and play area between rounds.
- All players must be supervised by an adult.
- No electronic devices of any kind allowed in playing area.
- No pre-tournament byes.
- We discourage the use of "Scholars Mate" or "Fools Mate" in a tournament setting and will teach
the defense to both in the pretournament announcements. The Dreadful Scholar's Mate!
