Points, Promotions & Letters

bigrainbow.gif
Our students earn points for chess-related endeavors: attending tournaments, mastering concepts and completing homework.  For every 50 points, they receive a candy reward.

Working on chess knowledge and tactics allows them to promote to new levels of expertise.  Below is a list and explanation of Points and Promotion.  (We make changes to this list periodically.)

We also offer letters in chess to our high school players.  For additional information, see below:

NOTES

The way we award points may change as the need arises.

It's each club members responsibility to make sure that they receive the right number of points each week.

Extra points may be awarded for special effort. Students may not ask for points.

You must actually do the work for the point.  It's great to help each other, but if you receive help from someone or see/overhear the answer, don't ask to receive points for that puzzle or worksheet, etc.

If anyone is caught cheating the system, they will have to report to a jury of their peers and may lose all of the points they have earned so far.

No points are given for fast, Blitz or Lightning games. (anything shorter than 25/5)

Points are given for games played within the last week.  If you miss club meetings, you may receive credit for games from a previous week.

If you ever have any questions about the points or how it works, ask Kate!

For every 50 points, you will receive a special edible prize!

Points may also be used to divide up our Nationals Funds (If money is available).  For more information on how these funds are disbursed click here

Points may not be donated to other club members.

At the end of the chess club year (June 30) all points over 50 are cleared out.
