MONTHLY ENROLLMENT
Chess School is different from Chess Club. Students must
enroll at the beginning of the month to participate. Registration is limited. Class sizes are kept small for individual
attention. Students receive advanced training to improve their chess skills. We bring in master level teachers
and plan fun activities. Individual lesson plans and curriculum development take time to prepare. We need to know
who will be here every week.

HOMEWORK
Students are expected to complete homework each week. Homework
should be done regularly for 10-15 minutes. To become proficient, chess should be practiced every day, just
like a musical instrument or any other skill. Students are also expected to play at least two games of chess each week
either in person or on the computer. Notation of these games should be turned in with their homework.
GRADES/REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be issued on the same schedule as Clatskanie
Schools. Grades are given based on weekly participation, homework completion, school activities, test results, behavior
and extra credit.
PROMOTION
Students will promote to the next level as they complete their cards.
There is no set schedule for promotion. We will hold promotion ceremonies 2-3 times a year. When a student promotes
there is a small fee, which helps cover our costs. Students who promote will receive awards and gifts to celebrate their
success! When your child moves up to the next level in Chess School, they will need new supplies, books, etc.
You can buy these items on your own or at a discount through Chess School. The cost of these items is $40-50.
Scholarships are available for those on a tight budget.
COMPETITION
Students are expected to play two games of chess online or in person
during the week. There are several ways to accomplish this…. By playing in a chess tournament, playing on a chess
program like Chess Master or playing online at Free Internet Chess Server www.freechess.org
PARENT PARTICIPATION
The best way for a parent to help and support their child
in learning chess, is to make the time for them to work on their skills every day. Taking your child to chess tournaments
and extracurricular chess activities is also important.
